Bike In The Snow 2019
Going back to school after being out for 40 yrs is an undertaking. I’ve loved photography since I was young. I would take images of what interested me or the unusual, a lot of nature. Not ever knowing there are rules and names for these different things. Not to mention the use of light the settings on your camera and so on. And then there’s your own perception of the scene, how to frame it, what patterns do you see, how would you move the camera to better show this.
Going back over my notes we’ve gone over so many topics. Daily records, frame of mind, observation, composition, awaking your brand, and how it effects your work and final product.
We’ve learned about visual analogy and visual communication with triptychs. Relating things that are the same but different. Maybe a picture of an animals eye and then a persons face. Juxtaposition, this one I still have trouble understanding because there’s juxtaposition almost everywhere. I would say my image above of the bike randomly leaned against a wall but covered in snow would be an example, something random. Or the image below coming upon a row of old rusted out cars parked end to end. Examples I see are where they show a person framed within a hole in a fence or where it appears a person is standing on someone’s hand. We’ve also learned about the design, texture, lines, patterns. Sometimes you notice them when framing your picture other times you don’t see them until your comparing them with other images, and you realize they are repeated in your work.
I think what I’ve enjoyed the most in this class is learning how to understand yourself better and see where you want to go. Actually really looking at what your shooting and evaluating your own work.
